"I need more than a 'What's Up?'" Special thanks to Pastor Timothy Jones for providing the sermon that influenced the conversation between Jacob and Keisha in The Rhythm in Blue novel!
Pastor Timothy Jones
A son of the church, Rev. Jones was led to faith in Christ at the early age of seven at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Since then, Rev. Jones has continually surrendered to God’s call, having previously served as Youth Pastor of St. John’s Congregational Church (Springfield, MA) under the Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley, Senior Pastor of First Central Baptist Church (Chicopee, MA), and as Associate Pastor back at St. John’s under the Rev. Dr. Calvin McFadden, Sr. As former senior pastor of Community Baptist Church, Rev. Jones had the task of shepherding a growing and progressing congregation located in the heart of the Newhallville neighborhood of New Haven. Active in the community, Rev. Jones served as the Co-Chair of the Clergy Caucus and as a member of the Strategy Team for CONECT (Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut), a non-partisan, multi-faith organization seeking social and economic change through policy and relationships. Rev. Jones could even be found mentoring young men at the local elementary school.
A scholar, Rev. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Amherst College, a Master of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology, and is a current candidate for the Doctorate of Philosophy in Practical Theology at Boston University. Embodying the best of the Black preacher-scholar tradition, Rev. Jones is an Adjunct Professor at Yale Divinity School, teaching courses in homiletics and polity, and has been blessed to preach across the nation at various churches, colleges, and conferences. A member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, Rev. Jones is a former college basketball player who also enjoys comic books, movies, and working out.
